Salento is a charming little city of about 7000 inhabitants set in the heart of Colombia’s Zona Cafetera, where over 50% of the country’s coffee is produced. It’s a town of colorful buildings that line imperfectly charming little streets, that lead to the main square, or if you go the opposite direction, you’ll end up in the mountains. Other than sipping on a warm cup of Colombian coffee while taking in the picture perfect landscapes, there are other great outdoor activities, like horseback riding, hiking or visiting the coffee farms. He was eventually imprisoned, but continued to run the Medellin Cartel from inside. Using his connections, he escaped in 1992, and remained in hiding until he was shot and killed in 1993. (more…)

Cartagena was so far my favourite city, which is promising for the visit of Colombia. A bit more expensive then everywhere else but full of history and colombian charm. To be honest, you feel a bit like being in Cuba (not that I know how it feels like:). (more…)
